This year, our annual Children’s Day/Book Day celebration will kick off our seasonal neighborhood meals on Monday evenings. These are great times for our neighbors to get together to enjoy good food and good fellowship and catch up with each other.
The tradition of Children’s Day/Book Day comes from Mexico to honor the kids of the community and encourage a love to read.
Donate books! Each kid can receive at least 2 good books. We “price” the books according to condition. They can be from 1 to 3 tickets each (more for collections or box sets). The kids receive 6 tickets and “purchase” the books of their choosing. They can receive anywhere from 2 to 6 books usually. We could use some new and nice used books that have plenty of life left in them! Please don’t forget our middle and high school kids! We also could use some Spanish and Spanish-English books for preschoolers.
Peppercorn Theatre will be one of our special guests at this year’s Día! Come experience the play, “What Goes Up,” and join our neighborhood children as they dream up the ways they can be “builders” in their world!
Please let us know if you would like to volunteer to help out!
